Supervision & Consultation

Are you looking for a clinical supervisor?

I am excited to be a Washington State Approved Supervisor and AAMFT an Approved Supervisor Candidate.

Supervision is an important, significant process for new clinicians and their professional development. I first knew I wanted to become a supervisor after having an incredible supervision experience at my internship. I felt encouraged, believed in, and I learned so much clinically. This supervisor had immense knowledge, emphasized professionalism and ethics. He balanced focusing on content, process, as well as self of the therapist work. With his guidance, he helped me think issues through on my own. He just really understood his role and influence.

However, I’ve also had negative experiences with supervisors, where I did not gain support, help, or ethical and competent guidance. I had another supervisor who overshared about her personal life, was lackadaisical, and did not uphold standards of the field. I didn’t gain any insight, skills, or guidance, and she inappropriately projected her own experiences onto supervision and clients. It was disheartening and… just sucked! It was honestly a waste of my time.

Both experiences have been incredibly informative for me as I became a supervisor myself. I know entering this field can be overwhelming, anxiety provoking, and a good supervisor can be an anchor amidst the often stressful learning processes.

My foundational goal as a supervisor is to nurture, teach, and model core competencies so that I may help develop clinicians that are competent, effective, proficient, and qualified for this field. I aim to cultivate clinicians who have strong theoretical knowledge, professional skills, and a foundation in ethical care.

A clinical supervisor is a combination of mentor, teacher, consultant, coach, emotional support, and cheerleader and I aim to have supervisory relationships that are based on trust, openness, vulnerability, and commitment to quality work. I want my supervisees to have a felt sense that I believe in them, in their abilities, and in their unique strengths they bring to the field.
