Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from counseling?
Your sessions will be customized to address your unique needs and goals. Throughout counseling, you can expect to explore your background, history, current concerns, any symptoms you may be experiencing, relationships, family dynamics, and significant life events. Together, we will set meaningful goals and consider various approaches to help you achieve success.
In therapy, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences, gaining valuable insight. You will develop a deeper understanding of yourself and others, while also receiving support, encouragement, and validation. Therapy will provide you with practical tools—such as coping strategies, communication techniques, boundary-setting skills, and relationship-building practices.
Overall, therapy offers a structured, supportive environment where you can work through challenges, gain clarity, and learn new skills to enhance your mental health and well-being. If there are aspects of this process you find more comfortable or challenging, please communicate that with me. My goal is to ensure you get the most out of your counseling experience.
How long do sessions last?
Sessions last from 45-55 minutes.
How often would we meet?
Most people attend counseling once a week or every other week, depending on their needs and goals. We will check in on your needs and can adjust the frequency of appointments at any time.
How long will I be in therapy?
The duration of counseling depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people engage in brief therapy, while others may attend for a longer period. We will regularly assess your needs throughout our time together and make adjustments as necessary to ensure your progress and success.
How do I prepare for a telehealth session?
Telehealth therapy should be treated with the same level of seriousness as an in-person session. Please ensure you are in a private, quiet location with minimal interruptions and distractions, and access to a reliable internet connection. Sessions cannot be conducted in public spaces, with others present, while consuming alcohol, cannabis, smoking, or if you are inappropriately dressed. For your safety, please refrain from attending therapy while driving. If your car is the only private space available, you may use it for your session as long as you are parked.
What is the cancellation policy?
A 48-hour cancellation notice is required. If you cancel late or fail to show up for your appointment (no-show), you will be responsible for the full session fee. This policy is in place because appointments are a dedicated time reserved exclusively for you. When you cancel, reschedule, or miss an appointment, it prevents someone else from seeking treatment and creates a financial burden on the practice. Most importantly, inconsistent attendance can significantly impact the high level of care that Both/And Wellness strives to provide.
The late cancellation or no-show fee may be waived at the discretion of Both/And Wellness in emergency cases only, such as the death or birth of a family member, an accident, or a serious illness or injury affecting you or someone you care for. Work-related issues, travel conflicts, or general illness do not qualify for exceptions. We appreciate your understanding of the necessity of this policy.
