Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect from counseling?

Your sessions will be tailored to your specific needs and goals. Some things to expect throughout counseling is discussing your background, history, and current concerns, symptoms you may be experiencing, relationships, family history, and any relevant life events. We will set goals for counseling and consider different ways to help you find success. In therapy you can expect to explore your experiences, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, to gain insight. You will develop a deeper understanding of yourself and others as well as receive support, encouragement, and validation. In therapy you can learn different kills such as coping skills, communication techniques, ways to assert boundaries, or relationship skills. Overall, therapy provides a structured and supportive environment for individuals to work through their problems, gain insight into themselves, and learn new skills to improve their mental health and well-being. If there are aspects of these areas you prefer and others that are more difficult, always communicate that to me. I want you to get what you need from counseling.

How long do sessions last?

Sessions last from 45-55 minutes.

How often would we meet?

Most people attend counseling once a week or every other week, depending on their needs and goals. Some clients have a set recurring schedule, and others schedule week by week depending on availability. We will check in on your needs and can adjust the frequency of appointments at any time.

How long will I be in therapy?

It depends on your needs and goals. Some people attend counseling for brief work, some people attend for years. We will continually check in on your needs throughout our time together and adjust things accordingly.

How do I prepare for a telehealth session?

Therapy via telehealth should be treated the same as if you were coming into an office. Please meet somewhere you will have complete privacy, limited interruptions, minimal distractions, and access to good wifi. Sessions cannot be conducted in public spaces, with others present, if you are drinking alcohol, consuming cannabis, smoking, or if you are inappropriately dressed. For safety reasons, please do not take your telehealth appointment while driving. If your car is the only private space you have, you are welcome to sit in your car for therapy as long as you are parked.

Can I meet via telehealth while I am traveling?

Unfortunately not. The law requires that clients must be physically located in the state of Washington at the time of session.

What is the cancellation policy?

A 48 hour cancellation notice is required. You will be responsible for the full session fee if there is a late cancellations or failure to cancel (no-show). This policy is necessary because appointments are a time commitment that is made to you and is held exclusively for you. When you cancel, reschedule, or do not show up for your appointment, you prevent someone else from seeking treatment. You also place a financial burden on the practice. Most importantly, the best and optimal care that Both/And Wellness aims to provide you is usually significantly impacted by inconsistent attendance. The late cancellation fee or no show fee may be waived at the discretion of Both/And Wellness for emergency cases only. This includes a death or birth in the family, an accident, or a serious illness/injury that affects yourself or someone for which you care. Work, travel-related conflicts, or general illness will not be exceptions to this policy. We hope that you understand why this policy exists.
